(Anchorage, Alaska / October 2024) – Ukrainian director and cinematographer Volodymyr Dorogobid, founder of Metaphora Vision, has embarked on a cross-country odyssey to film his new documentary project “Life in USA.”
The journey began in the deep South – in Alabama, where Dorogobid started exploring the spirit of small-town America. From there, the route led through the desert landscapes of Arizona and on to the raw, untamed beauty of Alaska, forming a poetic route from the heart to the edge of the continent.
The project sets out to explore the essence of America through the eyes of an immigrant – far from tourist clichés or Hollywood imagery.
Through intimate portraits of everyday life, Dorogobid captures the voices that shape a nation – workers, dreamers, artists, and immigrants who live, create, and persevere every day.
“I want to see the heartbeat of the country — not from the headlines, but through people’s lives,” says Dorogobid. “It’s their courage, humor, and dignity that define what America truly is.”
More than a film, “Life in USA” is conceived as a cultural bridge between Ukraine and the United States, reflecting shared human values – freedom, labor, and hope. The project blends cinematic artistry with documentary realism, creating a lyrical portrait of everyday life across the continent.
The production is now underway, with a festival premiere planned for late 2025. The team intends to present the film at major U.S. festivals, including the Anchorage International Film Festival, known for celebrating authentic stories from around the world, and the Chicano Hollywood Film Festival, one of America’s most respected showcases for documentary cinema.
